| Our HistoryIn September of 1979 Pastor Vetter moved from Panama City to Palm Harbor in order to start a new congregation. He began knocking on doors in the neighborhood, introducing himself and the new church, and inviting people to worship. Lutheran Church of the Resurrection first met in November of 1979 in a storefront with 28 people. The new congregation’s incorporation papers were signed on December 11, 1980 and officially recorded with the state of Florida on January 27, 1981. This young congregation broke ground for a new building at a ceremony on August 22, 1982.
On February 20, 1983 we had our first meeting in the new building. The building was not yet complete but suitable for worship. By May of 1983, the church had grown to 46 families (85 baptized members).
The first addition was Steffke hall and it was completed in 1991. Then, to serve our growing congregation and the surrounding community, we built our current fellowship hall in 2003. LCR is now a congregation of 243 families (542 baptized members).
Throughout our history, LCR has reached out in service both locally and around the globe. We have sponsored refugees, missionaries, Navajo Indian children, ministry to migrants, and many other groups of people in need of God’s love in word and deed.
As a community of believers, we have also shared in one another’s triumphs and grief. Our members have been there for one another, sharing God’s peace whenever there has been suffering or illness and we have come together for countless weddings, baptisms, and funerals. In 2007, our congregation joined Pastor Vetter in celebrating the 45th anniversary of his ordination.
In April 2010, our congregation celebrated its 30th anniversary thanks to the hard work of our members, both past and present. We are looking forward to many more years of serving God and his children.
